Bayonne’s Mackenzie Brown Pitches a Perfect Game, Will Throw Out First Ball For Mets on Saturday
Bayonne Now, NJ.com
Bayonne Little Leaguer Mackenzie Brown pitched a perfect game on Tuesday — the first time in the city’s league’s history that a girl has hit that milestone.
She’s getting national recognition for the feat and has been invited to throw out the ceremonial first pitch on Saturday for the Mets — the real ones!
The feat comes on the heels of another first for Bayonne youngsters. Last week, Brandon Pilovsky became the first pitcher in the city’s Cal Ripken League to throw a perfect game. He, too, got national attention.
For Mackenzie, congratulatory calls turned to balloons and appearances on local television stations.
As the Star-Ledger reports, this morning brought a trip to New York City to do a national Fox TV morning program where she threw pitches in their studio.
Last night, the 12-year-old got to sit at home and watch ESPN show highlights of her pitching.
“It’s been pretty crazy,” she said. “In school I have all these teachers asking for my autograph. I wasn’t used to that.”
Mackenzie, who told the Ledger she plays baseball because she always has been successful against the boys and just wanted to continue with it, knew she had something special going midway through Tuesday’s game.
“In like the fourth inning I kind of knew,” she said. “Then I just tried to keep doing what I was doing and not try to mess it up.” More . . .

Congratulations to UConn on winning their 6th National NCAA Women’s Basketball Title!
They did it by beating Louisville 76 – 54. Job exceptionally well done ladies!!!

Louisville-Connecticut Instant Analysis
Charlie Creme, ESPN.com
ST. LOUIS — Connecticut defeated Louisville 76-54 Tuesday in the 2009 national championship game at Scottrade Center. The 22-point victory was one point off the NCAA title game record. The biggest margin of victory is 23 points in 1987, when Tennessee beat Louisiana Tech 67-44.
HOW THE GAME WAS WON: UConn never stopped exacting its will. Louisville, already reeling from a 14-point halftime deficit, missed its first eight shots after the break and didn’t score in the 4 minutes, 48 seconds of the second half. Meanwhile, the Cardinals defense remained on its heels right out of the locker room. The Huskies came from all angles — Tiffany Hayes hit a 3-pointer, Tina Charles completed a three-point play and Renee Montgomery made two free throws — to rattle off seven answered points..
WHAT IT MEANS: UConn wrapped up a perfect 39-0 record, the fifth unbeaten season in Division I women’s college basketball history and the third in program history (1994-95 and 2001-02). More . . .

Made-to-order Magazines Let Readers Choose
Time Inc. experiment aims to mimic Web’s personalized news feeds.
The Associated Press
LOS ANGELES – Time Inc. is experimenting with a customized magazine that combines reader-selected sections from eight publications as it tries to mimic in printed form the personalized news feeds that have become popular on the Internet.
Called “mine,” the five-issue, 10-week experiment also aligns readers with the branding message that its sole advertising partner, Toyota Motor Corp., has for its new Lexus 2010 RX sport utility vehicle: It’s as customizable as the magazine carrying its ads.
The magazine is free, but the print edition is limited to the first 31,000 respondents, while an online version is available for another 200,000.
Sign-ups are available immediately at http://www.timeinc.com/mine, with the first issue to be shipped in the mail in early April, and then once every two weeks. Online subscribers will get digital editions that look just like the printed version, but in a special format that allows virtual page turns with clicks. A promotional push for the magazine kicks off Friday.
Readers can select five titles from eight published by subsidiaries of Time Warner Inc. and American Express Co.: Time, Sports Illustrated, Food & Wine, Real Simple, Money, In Style, Golf, and Travel + Leisure.
Editors will pre-select the stories that make it into every biweekly issue, and readers won’t have the option of changing the picks from issue to issue. More . . .

All-Male Masters Golf Club Will Draw New PINK Protesters
David Markiewicz, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Move over, Martha Burk.
PINK magazine CEO Cynthia Good plans to be at the Masters next month to protest Augusta National Golf Club’s all-male membership. Activist Burk caused quite a stir over that in 2003.
“We’re not going to be throwing ripe fruit or anything,” Good says, “but we’ll make our presence known. We absolutely believe women ought to be admitted to private clubs.”
The protest is one small way PINK is trying to “move the needle on issues that impact professional women.” The company, which targets women 25 to 54 who are successful, high-income and influential, has become More . . .
